Too often, writers are told to avoid voicing their opinions. Why is this? Why are "opinions" thought to be of such low value? This doesn't seem fair to me. When you think about it, your opinion on any topic is the accumulation of your thoughts, beliefs, emotions, past experiences, aspirations, feelings, etc.
This first graded essay asks you to embrace your opinions on the topic: "Art in the Year 2020: What is it? Why do people make it, buy it, "consume" it? How is it changing? Why?" Remember to address related questions and ideas. Have fun with this. Challenge yourself. Feel free to voice potentially unpopular or controversial ideas & opinions.
Your essay needs to have exactly five single-spaced paragraphs: typed, revised, edited, and proofread. Print it on a single sheet of paper and be sure to give it an engaging title. Also upload it on our Populi course site.
Due: Beginning of class, next Thursday, January 16
