This course is designed to highlight current events in what is sometimes awkwardly called "The Art World." One of these events that seemingly everyone is talking about but nobody really understands is the recent blockbuster sale of a computer file (see image above). The artist is a 39-year-old graphic designer from South Carolina who goes by the name Beeple. His digital collage, "The Everydays: The First 5,000 Days" sold at Christies auction house last week for more than 69 million dollars. The whole thing depends on the same technology that fuels bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. It's called "blockchain" and it's fairly confusing to almost everyone.
